1. Fort Aguada
Built on a clifftop, this 17th-century fort offers panoramic views of the sea and is impeccably maintained even today by the Archaeological Survey of India. An old Portuguese lighthouse that stands in the middle of the fort and a newer light house, built next to it, is open to visitors and offers perhaps the best view in all of Goa from its top.
2. Baga Beach
One of the first beaches to be thronged by the hippies when they came to Goa a few decades ago, Baga Beach has rapidly transformed since then and has turned in to a complete holiday resort, lined with hotels and restaurants to suits every budget and preference. It has plenty of choices for those who want to enjoy frolicking in the water. Shopping and nightlife options are aplenty and the area is perfectly safe for women travellers.
3. Arpora Saturday Night market
An alternative to the sweltering heat at the Wednesday afternoon Anjuna Flea Market, the Arpora Saturday Night market is a weekly evening affair, starting at 7pm and going on till late at night.
4. Biking Around Goa
The best way to explore the state is by renting a bike or a scooty and going where the road takes you. The people are really friendly so asking for directions is never a problem. Some of the most popular bike trips are Panjim to Old Goa via the Riverside Ribandar road; Panjim to Morjim on routes cutting through hills: and Margao to Palolem alongside the beach.
5. Dolphin Spotting at Grand island
Take a cruise and watch out for cavorting dolphins at Grand island tour. You can also visit at monkey beach for sunbathing, swimming and relaxing on the beach.
6. Basilica of Bom Jesus
This Baroque basilica holds the mortal remains of St Francis Xavier, making it one of the holiest places for Catholics. The church has an imposing facade. But it is worth seeing the interiors which has elaborately gilded altars besides the mausoleum of the saint who came to India from Lisbon to spread Christianity.
7. Sunset at Dona Paula
Watch a different palette of colors everyday as the sun sets over the sea at Dona Paula.
8. Dudhsagar Waterfalls
One of the highest cascades in the country, Dudhsagar Waterfalls is a popular haunt with trekking enthusiasts and is a spectacular sight during the monsoons. The waters appear almost milky white, and it is from this phenomenon tha the falls gets its name. The best time to visit is from October to March. They are located in Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary.
9. Palolem Beach
This long, stunning crescent beach in the far south has a distinctly alternative vibe from other famous beaches of Goa. If you are looking for a laid-back holiday, rest a while here, swim in the calm sea, choose from an infinite range of yoga, massages and therapies on offer and enjoy the low-key nightlife.
10. Cabo De Rama Fort
This huge fort is located 17km from Agonda. While a legend says that the Lord Rama stayed here with his wife during his 14-year exile, the fort was actually built in the 18th century by Hindu warriors. It was later taken over by the Portuguese and there are still remnants of their colonial rule in the form of rusty cannons and turrets. Inside the fort is the church of Santo Antonio. The fort is built on a clifftop and offers gorgeous panoramic views of the sea from its parapets.
